All About Vinyl Windows
Deciding to replace all the windows in your home or choosing the right ones for your new home could lead you into a maze of options and reading countless online reviews, trying to find the best value at a price that suits your budget. It is daunting, to say the least. Today I will let some light in on the subject of vinyl windows, in the hope that it will help you with your decision.
Vinyl is one of the cheaper window options on the market. While it is not THE cheapest one, there are valid reasons for that. Think back on your (or your parents’) vinyl records. How long have they had them? They are still around and we are now talking about vinyl made with technology of 20, 30 years ago. Today’s vinyl is of high quality, window structures have been changed to make vinyl windows sturdier and dual glass panes offer double strength to add to all this.
Vinyl windows do not crack, peel, rot, splinter or split (like pure wood, e.g.) and do not need to be painted or sanded. They are also easy to clean and dependable. When it comes to their energy efficiency, the dual glass panes guarantee optimum energy savings, which is great seeing an estimated 20% of a home’s heat or coolness is lost through the windows. They will therefore save you money all year round. Furthermore – these long-lasting windows will add value to your home.
A fair warning: installing windows might seem like an easy job, but it really isn’t. If they are not installed correctly your energy saving efforts will literally go out the window, and so will your money. The reality is that vinyl windows tend to warp and become unusable if they are installed incorrectly. It is subsequently very important that you choose both a reputable vinyl window product as well as a qualified contractor to buy your windows from and have them installed. You could (and should!) also ask your contractor for references and a workmanship guarantee.
BLR has installed thousands of energy efficient windows in the Las Vegas area and we still have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (which is where you should look up any and all contractors you are thinking of hiring). We work with quality vinyl suppliers such as Milgard, which has won BUILDER Magazine’s ‘Best Quality Vinyl Window in the Nation’ 8 times already.
